Little e's First Diaversary

I can't believe it has been over a year since little e was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and oh how life has changed in that year. Everything that she has eaten has been weighed and carb counted, every meal logged, over 2000 insulin injections in her poor little body and over 2500 pricks to her fingers.

Yet through everything my poor little pin cushion has carried on as normal as possible. It really is incredible how resilient children are, including the siblings, Big E has taken on a very protective stand especially when they are at school. She does get anxious when she thinks she is with folk that don't know what they are doing but I am a lot more anxious that she is! We celebrated her first Diaversary on Cub camp which she loved and I survived - just!

Last week we found out that our Insulin Pump training starts tomorrow and she will get it the 2nd week in June, all very exciting and hopefully it will help get on top of the roller coaster blood glucose levels.

The symptoms of type one are often shrugged off as something else - I thought little e had a chill in her bladder making her go to the toilet all the time which was making her want to drink, and a growth spurt that had made her skinny. It was my friend who convinced me to take her to the doctors after confirming my suspicion that the symptoms were diabetes.

Now if society can stop diabetes shaming and being clear in the difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes the world would be a better place. No one asked for the disease and to assume everyone with type 2 got it from eating too much sugar is wrong, I know of 5 people with type 2, none of who are, or have ever been, overweight never mind obese!

Anyway, mild rant over, now to write a sewing post...

A Halifax Hoodie

Wow it's a long time since I have written anything here. Life has been busy and stressful and this little space has not really crossed my mind until today. I had always heard of the grief analogy about the sea and waves and never really understood it, now I do and it is very true. That along with little e's diabetes going into crazy mode has meant 2017 has started in a way I hope it doesn't continue!

Anyway, on a cheerier note I have been doing some sewing for me in between sewing for others. The search has been on for a good hoodie pattern for ages and finally I found one, the Halifax Hoodie from Hey June.

I have made a hoodie before and it had raglan sleeves and the fit wasn't great. This one is normal sleeves and has all the nice finishing touches inside like hiding the inside of the zip and covering the join between the hood and body.

It was a easy make and I love it. I made it in a large which was the closest to my measurements but I think the next one will be a medium as this is roomy! The fabric is from Kitschy Coo and has been sitting in my stash since this time last year, it is nice to finally be able to wear it although it is still a bit light weight for the cold temperatures we have been having. The perfect excuse to find some heavier weight fabric to make another.

Hopefully back soon!

And for anyone needing a good cry this song is lovely.
